However, due to the inter-Partner violence allegations made by Ashley Benefield as well as efforts of parental alienation, many were divided as to who the heroes and villains of this story were. Newsflash, there were no heroes or villains, it was just an unfortunate killing that, in my opinion, could have been avoided and it seems that the Jury’s finding of manslaughter rather than 2nd degree murder charge reflects the idea that it was an avoidable slaughter.
I was able to sit down with attorney and legal commentator Andrea Burkhart to discuss this verdict and what it means for victims of credible Domestic Violence. Asking the question whether this verdict is a setback for those victims. We also discussed the naunces of stand your ground and Ashley’s right to defend herself, the believability and credibility of Ashley’s testimony and much more.
Ashley Benefield is due for sentencing this 22nd October 2024.
