Key Excerpts

Day 11 Testimonies

Detective Ronnie Mejia Testimony – 7:28+

Detective Mejia has been a detective since 2017 and has a reputation for catching perpetrators for gun crimes. He testifies to Jonathan entering the precinct to file a complaint against Grace Jabbari and did not speak to anyone else about the arrest except Jonathan. He was not allowed to say the date, time and location. Fe was allowed to testify to the existence of such metadata.

On cross examination, the prosecution asked if it was normal to have the attorney help him out with his virtual complaint whilst on the phone.

Elan Ruspoli- 19:20+

Jonathan Majors’ talent manager, Elan Ruspoli from William Morris Endeavor Agency, was the last witness up for the day. He testifies to receiving a call from Jonathan at 10:45 ET who was standing outside the door of the bedroom he was in, and the phone call lasted approximately 25 minutes. He testifies that he was knocking on the door around 70 to 80 times, and the phone call ended at 11:13 ET. He called 911 after speaking to Elan. Asked by the defense whether the 911 call is how Jonathan sounded, Elan responds with, “It mirrors it.”

It was established that Grace was awake due to the texts that she was texting her friend at 11:07 ET.

On cross-examination, Mr. Ruspoli was quizzed that he would need Jonathan Majors to make a living (insinuating that it would be in his best interest to testify in his favor), to which Jonathan responds saying that the agency pays him and not Jonathan.

Tami Weiner – 47:20+

Tami Weiner, according to Dani, was overqualified for this case. She enrolled at Dartmouth College for her undergrad and master’s degree, then attended on K Western for her medical degree, licensed in New York State and Connecticut, board certified, and gives lectures about IPV and trauma. She has treated up to 3000+ patients a year and conducted 300 emergency room procedures and has been practicing for 10 years. The prosecution did try to get her struck as a witness but was denied. She reviewed Grace’s testimonies in relation to the injuries, reviewed Dr. Chiang’s testimony (there were a lot of objections that were sustained while trying to opine on Dr. Chiang’s testimony).

She testified that the finger injury that Grace incurred is common, caused by hitting the finger on a hard surface or being struck by a hard surface. She was also shown the videos of Grace at the club and how she was using her finger, to which the doctor testified that if the finger was broken at the time, it would physiologically be hard to do those activities.

The doctor went on to testify that Grace sustained an “oblique linear fracture.” She said that if her hand was “twisted or squeezed,” she would have got a “spiral fracture,” and it would not have been an “oblique linear fracture.” She goes on to expertly opine that if she received the injury through the hand being “twisted,” then you would see disruption of joints and tendons; they would be torn or cut from the twisting. The defense showed Tami the pictures again, to which she testifies, saying that there are no abnormalities with the other fingers, no injuries. She says that the top of the middle finger nail has a straight line disruption of the nail bed, indicating that the fingernail may have been pulled back, and said there is no evidence of any type of twisting injury, as this would have resulted in a crush injury, as there would have been bruising in multiple other fingers, not just one.

Tami goes on to opine on the ear injury, expertly pointing out that should Grace had suffered a blow to the head as she testified to, the tissues and everything around the ear would have been injured, and not just the laceration that is shown in the picture. There would have also been bruising to the head, which there was none, as documented by Dr. Chang’s examination of Grace at Bellevue Hospital.

Tami also pointed out that Grace was pale-skinned and would be easier to notice the bruising should it have occurred. She also testified that adrenaline rushes last for short minutes and you cannot go hours on an adrenaline rush, as it may result in death, stating that it’s a fleeting feeling that’s largely diminished within a few minutes! She also said that one has to be intoxicated to not feel pain but not tipsy. You would feel pain if you were tipsy. She also was objected to opining on what caused the laceration on the ear, likely because she wasn’t the treating physician and would be prejudicial.

On cross-examination, the prosecution questioned on how much she was billed: $3,750 for her testimony, and that was the cross.
